A career in the medical field can be an exciting career move that will not only keep you on your toes, but support you financially in an economy where job security is hard to find. One of the more popular medical technical careers is that of an x ray technician. In a world where people are constantly hurting themselves, getting sick or can no longer take care of themselves pursuing a job as a medical technician will ensure job security for years to come. Going after a job such as that of an x-ray technician can sound like it requires a ton of schooling, intimidating and stressful work conditions, along with a competitive job market. However, a career as an x-ray tech can actually be very rewarding and doesn’t require as much schooling as you might think.

An x-ray tech will be specifically trained through an x-ray technician school to use x-ray equipment that allows them to take internal pictures of the human body makeup. You may spend your day working at a hospital, doctor’s office, radiology clinic or even a dental office. You may often times have to deal with broken bones, people who cannot sit or stand or who may be in extreme pain because of an injury. For this reason, there can be added stress on any given day in the life of an x-ray technician.
What kind of schooling is required to become an x-ray technician? There are actually several different places in which an x-ray tech can receive schooling. Some of these places include community colleges, universities, hospitals and designated x ray technician schools. You can become certified in as little as one year, or you can receive an associate’s degree through a two-year technical program. If you wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree then you will need to complete a four year x ray program.
A two-year program is the most popular among x-ray technicians. It is important to keep in mind that the amount of schooling that you choose to partake in can affect not only your job position but your annual salary as well. The longer you stay in school the higher up you can expect to start in salary and a job position.
